Why You Need To Build Multiple Streams of Income For Yourself ...

Word Count: 664 Date:

Everyday, hundreds of people all over the world join up with network marketing opportunities online, hoping to make riches, but often the opportunity that they join up with is closed down within a few short months. This is one of the main reasons that online entrepreneurs need to focus on building sustainable and long term residual incomes for themselves.

Problem is most internet marketers join every opportunity that comes their way, and then never actually make anything much in any of them. The reason is that they don't treat one opportunity like a business and work on that particular opportunity until they are actually in profit. Instead they try for a little while with one and then join up with the next best thing that comes around.

The secret to success is working your part time job just as hard as you would your full time job for at least six months or until you are in profit. Only after you have done this will you see whether or not the business will work out for you or not.

The other problem that many face is that they do all the above and then the company closes their doors just when you do start earning yourself a nice little income. Overnight, poof, their earnings have gone.

Okay, we all know that internet marketing is hard work and always will be. Only once you have in disposable income in your hands, can you make your money work for you and afford yourself more time to live your life. It will be hard work until then, building up your business and learning all there is about driving traffic to your program.

Here are some things to look out for before joining up with any MLM or Internet Marketing Business and what you can do to sustain your income:

1. When you find something that appeals to you, Google it and see what others have to say.

2. Try not to lay out any money unnecessarily. If possible, make some money first, then reinvest it into your business.

3. If there is a monthly fee involved, which there normally is in any good business, make sure that you will be able to afford the first three months at least, until you have something coming in.

4. Try to join up with opportunities that are either more than two years old, or that help you to build multiple streams of income in more than one different place. In that way if one of the streams collapses, then at least you will have another to sustain you.

5. Build up a good relationship with all the people that you bring into the business. Give your referrals all the help and support that they need, because if they are successful, then in turn your will also be successful.

6. Join up with an online opportunity that you only have to promote one URL and earn multiple streams of income. In this way you can focus your time more productively on promoting one thing instead of trying to promote many different things and thus dilute your advertising power.

7. Make sure that you invest money in a product or service, as there are many pyramid schemes to invest in with nothing to show for it, and these are normally the types of sites that don't last very long.

Network marketing is the wave of the future, as this is one of the only ways that you can build yourself a great residual income. A residual income is money that you are earning without having to put in hours of work each day, the way you would at a regular job. When you get to this stage, you will be able to enjoy your life more and not have to tie yourself to your desk for eight hours a day.

Help your child keep fit and avoid obesity

According to the Childhood Obesity Foundation of Canada, childhood obesity rates have skyrocketed in the last 25 years. Currently, 1 out of 4 Canadian kids between the ages 2-17 are overweight or obese. Want to help you kids avoid joining the alarming statistical trend? Two predictors of success include taking the lead for your kids by setting a good example and by providing them with the means to make physical activity their way of life. How?

The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends that children and teenagers engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for an hour or more each day. Kids also need muscle and bone strengthening activities at least three days per week.

A convenient and fun way for the whole family to get moving is to join a club and take advantage of their fitness or sports programs. The Canadian government even provides a tax credit of up to $500 per child towards fees relating to the cost of registering your child in a prescribed program of physical activity.

The Ontario Racquet Club is a popular destination where adults and youth have found a passion for physical activity through fitness, tennis and squash. The club?s popular Kindergym, Kid?s Gym programs fill up fast. There?s also Teen Spin, Teen Pilates and Ten Hot Yoga programs where teens can work out and socialize with their peers in a safe environment. Many of the clubs programs are free or discounted to members.

Remember that weight problems in childhood have a high likelihood of persisting into adulthood, leading to a host of related health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, joint and bone problems. So, don?t delay. Give your kids an early start on the road to good health and active living. By doing so, you?ll help them thrive physically, emotionally, mentally and socially.

Ontario Racquet Club is Mississauga and Oakville?s premier destination for health, fitness and racquet sports. For more information, visit www.ontarioracquetclub.com or call 905-822-5240.

Skate On keen to carry on winning streak

Seven consecutive conquests is really a commendable and brilliant feat. This is what Skate On has accomplished. Now, the M. Walsh trained brindle bitch is hell-bent to perpetuate this excellent success streak with the addition of the glorious title of Colin Harney Northern Oaks ? Final that is scheduled to go down at Belle Vue racecourse on Thursday night, September 27.

The two-year-old star hound will break from the orange box to compete against five mighty rivals while running over 470 meters. The temptation to earn the big cash prize worth ?1500 will lead her to perform to his utmost.

?

The punters, who have underrated Skate On for this year, will surely be disappointed to see him winning convincingly. The way she won his last seven races shows that the brilliant bitch is going to be an invincible runner in tonight?s marathon.

Moreover, Walsh has administered many helpful training techniques on her to lift her stamina and confidence. In the presence of all these factors, how can any of the other five contestants dominate Skate On.

The talented daughter of Cashen Legend out of Grannys Image has achieved more than her trainer expected when she started her career in January 2012. Her profile is adorned with triumphs.

The maverick sprinter debuted with a grand triumph and moved on to bag a couple of consecutive victories in the month of February.

After a few decent podium finishes, she started a glaring success streak by winning a T2 race on August 7. After an A1 victory, she elegantly won three big open races during August.

On September 13, Skate On again finished first by the huge margin of 4? lengths in a T2 race. Her last triumph came in Colin Harney Northern Oaks.

These stats speak volumes of the talent the Walsh?s pupil enjoys. She has tested and proved her capabilities on a number of occasions. Now, no one should have any doubt on her skills.

Among the bitch?s rivals, Blue Glenard and Nyla Fantasy are likely to perform well.

So, let we turn to Belle Vue to enjoy the charged action. Good luck to Skate On.

How To Leak a Secret in Bulgaria

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange addresses the press and his supporters.

The following is the second of three articles adapted from Andy Greenberg's This Machine Kills Secrets: How WikiLeakers, Cypherpunks, and Hacktivists Aim To Free the World?s Information, out now from Dutton. Read the first part here.

When Assen Yordanov ended his career as a buffalo shepherd and became an investigative reporter, one of his early scoops involved sneaking into to an illegal cigarette factory north of his hometown of Burgas in 1995. Yordanov?s story led to the factory?s shutdown and a two-year police investigation, but no arrests. He did, however, receive his first death threat, a letter warning him to ?reserve a place in the cemetery for his tomb.? And he made his first acquaintance with Bulgaria?s most powerful man.

?One of those men involved in this factory that I exposed was Boyko Borisov,? Yordanov told me when we met in a sunny caf? in the Bulgarian Black Sea resort town of Varvara. Yordanov is a broad-shouldered man in a black T-shirt, with a half-week?s worth of stubble, and he?s taken off his pair of scuffed Oakley knockoffs to show me the serious expression behind them. ?Today, he is the prime minister of Bulgaria. And sixteen years ago I showed that he is a criminal.?

In 1995, Yordanov?s accusations against Borisov hadn?t stuck. In 2011, with the help of WikiLeaks? model of anonymously leaked documents, he would have another shot.

Yordanov and his smaller, techier partner Atanas Tchobanov met in 2008, when Tchobanov, a Bulgarian expatriate in Paris working with Reporters Without Borders, interviewed Yordanov about a knife ambush that had nearly killed Yordanov outside his home in the eastern Bulgarian city of Burgas.

Yordanov believed the attackers were linked with a story about corrupt real estate deals he had written. But he had no intention of backing down. Instead, he wanted Tchobanov to help him go further, to launch their own investigative news website. They called it Bivol, the Bulgarian word for Yordanov?s favorite animal, the buffalo. And despite running it with near-zero budget, the rare independent Bulgarian media outlet had immediate impact. Rumiana Jeleva, Bulgaria?s foreign minister, was set to be confirmed as a representative of the European Commission. Yordanov and Tchobanov helped to uncover financial ties she had failed to disclose, showing that she continued to own a consulting company long after she had claimed to have no interests in it. The story contributed to an investigation of Jeleva that was picked up in foreign media and finally led to her resignation from not only the EU post, but also her ministry position.

But Tchobanov could sense that Yordanov?s traditional breed of muckraking was endangered: In September of 2008, the journalist Ognyan Stefanov had been stopped outside a Sofia restaurant one night and brutally beaten with hammers and steel bars, left for dead with broken arms and legs and a severe concussion that he barely survived. In this case, the attack had a new twist: The victim had attempted?and failed?to remain anonymous.

Stefanov was secretly the editor of the blog Opasnite Novini??Dangerous News??that 10 days before had published a story based on a leak that showed officials in the new intelligence agency DANS were involved in a smuggling ring. DANS, whose name translates to ?National Security Agency,? had been formed the same year, supposedly to fight organized crime. Somehow it had identified Stefanov.

In a government investigation that followed Stefanov?s beating and through more anonymous leaks to the press, DANS was revealed to be engaged in mass wiretapping of journalists and government officials. (By 2010, the Bulgarian government would perform around 15,000 wiretaps annually, close to 200 times the number per capita reported in the United States that year.) The mass surveillance and intimidation tactics of the Communist-era Darzhavna Sigurnost were alive and thriving.

Tchobanov knew that Bivol needed new ways to protect itself and its sources. So he simply typed ?anonymous submissions? into Google. Soon he began to discover the cypherpunks? many gifts to journalists: the email encryption program PGP, Off-the-Record encrypted instant messaging, the anonymity software Tor. And WikiLeaks.

The Bulgarian technophile was immediately fascinated by the site?s technical methods and utter fearlessness. He began to monitor its leaks closely, and even experimented with uploading an unverified document that a source had sent him, in the hopes that this mysterious group might be able to authenticate it and publish it to a global audience. The document, written in Bulgarian, never surfaced on the site.

This Mr. Coffee K-Cup Maker Is Your Convenience-Is-King Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

Some people love to complain about K-Cups—y'know, the single serving pods that produce a cup of coffee in seconds. Sure, they may be envirommentally wasteful, they might not make the best tasting cup of coffee, and a K-Cup costs more than an equivalent amount of coffee beans. But for some people, coffee is just a way to deliver caffeine, and for that, the K-Cup is a perfect solution. Making a K-cup is simple: add water, add the coffee pod, and press a button. Cleanup's even easier. Often, this kind of convenience is reserved for offices and schools, where time and tidiness are at a premium. But today, the Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewer—which uses K-Cups—is 39% off at Amazon, which means you can still pick up a reusable K-Cup and still save money. Never again will you clean a french press full of grinds and have to decide whether they go in the trash or the sink. [Amazon] More »

(AP) ? Despite being constrained by mental illness and the loss of his left leg and arm, Brian Claunch had spent much of the past decade finding opportunities to run away from residential care facilities where he had been placed, preferring to live on the streets.

In recent months, Claunch had seemed to settle into some stability, staying put, taking his medications. But all of that abruptly ended this past weekend in a confrontation with police in which the 45-year-old man in a wheelchair was fatally shot by an officer.

While his criminal and medical history did not seem to indicate violent tendencies toward others, Claunch had his ups and downs, according to John Garcia, the owner of Healing Hands Assisted Home Care, where Claunch had been living. The worst aspects of his mental illness burst forth when he wouldn't calm down after demanding cigarettes and soda around 2 a.m. Saturday, Garcia said.

A caretaker called police. Authorities say Claunch cornered a responding officer with his wheelchair and waived a shiny object in his hand. The other responding officer, fearing for his partner's life and his own safety, shot Claunch in the head, police said. The shiny object turned out to be a ballpoint pen.

Since the shooting, community and civil rights groups have called for changes in how officers are trained and disciplined. Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland has called the shooting tragic but asked people to reserve judgment until the department's investigation is completed. The FBI is monitoring the case.

Garcia, who was not at the home when the shooting happened, tearfully recalled a loving but also at times quarrelsome man. Claunch had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, a chronic condition in which people see and hear things that aren't there.

"He was aggressive. As far as violent, I don't know," Garcia said. "Every time (Claunch) got into a situation with me, I would just say, 'Brian, calm down, calm down,' and I would walk away from him and in an hour or two he would be OK."

According to court records, Claunch lost his left arm and leg because "he firmly believed that the devil was in the left side of his body so he (decided) to lay down on the railroad tracks and waited for a train to come and (dismember) him."

A mental status examination in 2002 found Claunch was "pleasant and cooperative" but had a history of psychiatric hospitalizations over the prior decade. He was unable to work and would not take his medications, leading to him "hearing voices."

In 2003, a probate court judge declared Claunch a ward of the Harris County Guardianship Program.

Court records show Claunch's mother initially petitioned to be her son's guardian but changed her mind. Records show Claunch also had a brother and sister. Efforts this week to reach his family were unsuccessful.

During the first two years of his guardianship, Claunch did well, living in a personal care home in Houston, according to annual reports submitted to the probate court.

But by 2006, Claunch started running away, panhandling on local streets. Over the next few years, he went missing, was hospitalized and was in and out of jail on drug and trespassing charges. He also stopped taking his medications.

In 2010, he was placed at a state mental hospital in East Texas for several months.

He started living at Healing Hands in May 2011 but ran away after four months. He was found and brought back in March. At Healing Hands, located in a three-bedroom home, Claunch lived with two other men.

Estella Olguin, a spokeswoman for the Harris County Guardianship Program, said in the time Claunch was a ward of the county, he lived in at least 12 facilities. After coming back to Healing Hands, "he seemed to do really well," she said.

Garcia, 62, said he had twice before called police about Claunch ? both times because he left the home and refused to return.

Claunch had seemed fine Friday night, said Garcia, who had given him a pack of cigarettes, two sodas and his medication before leaving around 8 p.m.

But Claunch, a chain smoker, went through his cigarettes and soda and around 2 a.m. began aggressively demanding more of both from the overnight caretaker.

The caretaker called 911, initially telling the operator he was having problems with a mentally ill person. Because of static on the line, it's unclear if the operator knew about Claunch's mental condition, Garcia said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Houston police spokesman John Cannon said he could not comment on whether the responding officers knew of Claunch's mental state. Healing Hands does not have any signs outside saying it is a facility for mentally ill or physically challenged individuals.

According to police, Claunch threatened to kill the two officers and tried to stab one with the shiny object in his hand.

The officer who shot him, Matthew Marin, had fatally shot another suspect in 2009, firing on a man who was stabbing his neighbor to death and refused to drop the knife. A five-year veteran, Marin was placed on three-day administrative leave after Claunch's death.

Garcia said he is still in shock and is reserving judgment on whether the shooting was justified.

"I love Brian. He was one of God's children and that's the way I look at him," he said.

Cities where home prices not rebounding

Kevork Djansezian / Getty Images file

Home prices have been slow to rebound in many recession-battered U.S. cities.

By Michael B. Sauter and Alexander E. M. Hess, 24/7 Wall St.

?Since home prices peaked in the beginning of 2006, the U.S. median home price is down by a third. And though the market has begun to show signs of bottoming out, prices are still down nationally by 1.9 percent from last year and are expected to fall an additional 1 percent from the beginning of this year through 2013.

24/7 Wall St.: The 10 states with the strongest housing markets

Of the 384 largest housing markets measured by real estate data company?Fiserv, 69 have seen home prices fall more than the national average. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the markets with the worst home price declines from their pre-recession?peak. Of those metro areas, we identified the markets where the median?price did not improve in any of the periods measured by Fiserv as of the first quarter of 2012. The?10 worst are housing markets that have fallen at least 55 percent and have yet to recover.

While the drop in home prices in these markets has slowed, the local economies have been devastated. July unemployment rates in the worst housing markets were all above the national rate of 8.1 percent. Eight of the 10 have rates of at least 10 percent, and five are above 12 percent. Merced, Calif., one of the?10 worst-off cities, had an unemployment rate of 17.8 percent in July, the fourth-highest in the country.

According Fiserv chief economist David Stiff, the unemployment rates and languishing home prices in these markets are indicative of the underlying problems in these states as a whole. ?The reason the job markets are so weak in these metro areas is that during the boom more than half of the growth was generated either directly or indirectly by residential real estate, and so now the reverse has happened,? Stiff explained.?

Further evidence of the economic troubles heaped on these cities, three of the housing markets ? San Bernardino, Vallejo and Stockton ? have filed for bankruptcy since the recession began. Stockton?s Chapter 9 filing represents the largest such case in U.S. history.

Continually depressed home prices also have led to unusually high foreclosure rates in these markets. According to foreclosure data from RealtyTrac, a site that tracks housing data, these cities had among the worst foreclosure rates in the country as of the second quarter of 2012. Of the 10 cities, eight are among the 20 with the highest foreclosure rates out of the 212 metro regions with populations of 200,000 or more.

Of the cities with the worst home price declines, some have begun to recover. In the Detroit metro area, which did not make the list, the median home price has declined by 55.8 percent from the first quarter of 2006. However, between the first quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, the median price went up by 8.6 percent, one of the largest increases in the country.

Like Detroit, many of the the 10 worst-off markets appear to be about to recover because buyers see bargains. Home prices in seven of the 10 metro areas were lower than the national median of $159,000. Fiserv projects that of the 10 housing markets on our list, five will increase by more than the national rate of 5 percent between the first quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014. This includes the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach region, which Fiserv projects will have more than 10 percent growth in median home value in that time. Stiff confirmed this: ?Investors, who were part of the problem back in the boom years, will be trying to jump into these markets at a low.?

24/7 Wall St.: Cities with the most homes in foreclosure

24/7 Wall St. reviewed data from Fiserv?to determine the 10 metropolitan areas that had no annual improvement in their housing markets from the first quarter of 2007, the first quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2011, all through the first quarter of 2012. We relied on RealtyTrac for data on foreclosure rates and foreclosure sales (both for second quarter of 2012). We also obtained seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for July from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

These are the?10 towns that cannot turn around.

1. Merced,?Calif.

  • ?Decline in home prices (peak to Q1, 2012):?-69.7 percent
  • ?Unemployment rate:?17.8 percent (fourth highest)
  • ?Median home price:?$110,000 (32nd lowest)
  • ?Foreclosure rate:?One in 90.3 housing units (eighth highest)

Nowhere in the U.S. have home prices taken the beating they have in Merced where the median price of a home has fallen at an annualized rate of 19.2 percent in the past five years. That's?the highest rate in the country. Sadly, prices are not expected to begin to rise in 2012, as Fiserv predicts home prices will fall another 4.4 percent between the first quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of?2013. Though home prices were possibly overvalued at their peak, when the median mortgage payment cost 51 percent of monthly income, they would appear to be undervalued now; the median mortgage payment costs just 10 percent of monthly income. The decline in home value has been especially costly for some homeowners, as one in every 90.3 homes was in foreclosure, and 55 percent of all home sales were foreclosure sales. The massive decline in home prices has also caused significant damage to the local economy ? the unemployment rate in Merced was 17.8 percent, higher than almost all other metropolitan areas.

2. Modesto, Calif.

  • ?Decline in home prices (peak to Q1, 2012):?-64 percent
  • ?Unemployment rate:?15.7 percent (ninth highest)
  • ?Median home price:?$139,000 (83rd lowest)
  • ?Foreclosure rate:?One in 68.7 housing units (third highest)

Over the past five years Modesto?s median home price has fallen from 7.5 times median family income to just 2.5 times median family income. Though homes in the area have become more affordable, such price declines have devastated present and current homeowners. The area had the third-highest foreclosure rate in the nation at slightly higher than one in every 69 homes, and 57 percent of all homes sold were foreclosed properties. In few places has the economy been weakened by a housing collapse more than in Modesto, where the unemployment rate stood at 15.7 percent, the ninth highest rate nationwide.

24/7 Wall St.: States Losing the Most Jobs to China

3. Stockton,?Calif.

  • ?Decline in home prices (peak to Q1, 2012):?-62.8 percent
  • ?Unemployment rate:?15.0 percent (12th highest)
  • ?Median home price:?$170,000 (76th highest)
  • ?Foreclosure rate:?1 in 66.2 housing units (the highest)

When Stockton filed for bankruptcy in June, it became the largest-ever U.S. city to do so, according to The Wall Street Journal. The city?s economy has been plagued for years by constantly falling?home prices, which declined at an annualized rate of 16.6 percent between the first quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2012. Stockton also has one of the nation?s highest unemployment rates of 15 percent and a foreclosure rate that leads the nation with one in every 66.2 homes in foreclosure. Though Fiserv projects home prices will rise at an annualized rate of nearly 6 percent between the first quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2017, the housing market remains weak.?Fifty-four percent of all second-quarter home sales were foreclosure sales, and the number of property listings in July was down more than 40 percent year-over-year.

4. Las Vegas-Paradise,?Nev.

  • ?Decline in home prices (peak to Q1, 2012):?-61.6 percent
  • ?Unemployment rate:?11.7 percent (32nd highest)
  • ?Median home price:?$137,000 (79th lowest)
  • ?Foreclosure rate:?One in 95.9 housing units (11th highest)

No metropolitan area outside California has seen as large and unabated decline in home prices as Las Vegas. While home prices in other metro areas on this list are expected to improve in the near future, home prices in Las Vegas are projected by Fiserv to decline through at least the first quarter of 2014. Home prices in the area are already low enough that the average discount for purchasing a foreclosed home was just 15.2 percent, less than half the 31.7 percent average discount nationwide.

5. Vallejo-Fairfield,?Calif.

  • ?Decline in home prices (peak to Q1, 2012):?-60.1 percent
  • ?Unemployment rate:?10.2 percent (56th highest)
  • ?Median home price:?$200,000 (47th highest)
  • ?Foreclosure rate:?One in 71.4 housing units (fourth highest)

The Vallejo-Fairfield, Calif., metro area home price drop of more than 60 percent since the first quarter of 2006 was the sixth-worst decline during the housing market collapse of the 384 regions measured by Fiserv. Despite the decline, the area?s median home price was still in the top 15 percent, largely because the area contains California?s famous wine region, the Napa Valley. Median family income was among the top 40 in the country at $76,100. Despite this, one in every 71.4 homes was in foreclosure as of the second quarter of this year, the fourth-highest rate in the country.

The show's producers say she will tape her appearance on Thursday. It's scheduled for broadcast on Oct. 3. "Steve Harvey" is taped before an audience at NBC's studios in Obama's hometown of Chicago.

The 55-year-old veteran comic's show debuted earlier this month.

Harvey said in a statement that he's honored to have Mrs. Obama as a guest.

The first lady's appearance on Harvey's program will be her latest on the daytime talk-show circuit as the presidential election enters its final weeks.

159th Combat Aviation BrigadeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY ? Soldiers of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade and other 101st Airborne Division soldiers participated in a Stigma Reduction Communications Campaign workshop September 18th at Fort Campbell, KY.

The objective of the workshop was to reduce the stigmas associated with seeking help for personal issues. Emotional problems, substance abuse, domestic violence, discrimination and sexual assault and harassment are surrounded by negative perceptions, which might prevent someone from seeking professional help.

Cpl. James Bishop, an information technology specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment said he thinks too many soldiers have not received the help they need due to the perceived stigmas attached to mental health and other conditions.

?Soldiers may not want to seek help because they don?t want to appear weak in front of their leaders and their peers,? he said.

?It takes strength to ask for help,? said Spc. Hermanne Aky, a food service specialist with Headquarters and Support Company, 563rd Aviation Support Battalion.

?Strength goes hand in hand with courage,? she said. ?If you?re afraid to do things and stand up for yourself, there?s no strength there.?

First Sgt. Timothy Hockett, the first sergeant for Company E, 3rd Bn., 101st Avn. Rgt., advocates building trust between noncommissioned officers and their soldiers, which, in turn, results in better communication, a unified team, and ultimately, a stronger Army.

The Senior Enlisted workshop addressed topics involving how to turn negative perceptions into support for battle buddies.

?Talk about it as a cohesive team, rather than gossip,? said 1st Sgt. Cedric Page, the first sergeant for Company C, 3rd Bn., 101st Avn. Rgt. ?Instead, you [as a leader] say, ?He needs help. Talk to him, pick him up.? That?s a cohesive team ? a family. That takes away the negative stigma.?

Soldiers are more likely to ask for help from their leaders without the fear of judgment, said Page.

Page said a point raised during the workshop was that one way a noncommissioned officer earns trust from subordinates is by setting and following one standard, and good noncommissioned officers will check in with their soldiers.

A leader?s job is to know subordinates well enough that when there is a problem, the leader can recognize it. soldiers who have serious personal issues need someone who can provide resources, and an noncommissioned officer is one of the best places to start.

?There needs to be a good NCO/soldier bond, so the soldier can feel more comfortable going to the NCO when he needs to, therefore strengthening the soldier mentally,? Aky said.

A soldier must be both physically and mentally tough, but since the physical help is easier for others to recognize, it usually takes priority.

Hockett said the soldier may be more apt to ask for help with something physical, such as an Army Physical Fitness Test score, rather than asking for help involving something the soldier may perceive as shameful, such as domestic or psychological problems.

?For a soldier, it?s not just physical. It?s strength in their job, their character and their resiliency ? it?s the whole picture,? said Page.

When units need help in battle, they call for backup ? individuals who make up those units should follow the same procedure.

It takes courage to ask for help without fear of judgment, and when soldiers do so, they strengthen the Army that much more.

Asking for help, or at least asking for someone to listen, is hardly disgraceful.

?At the end of the day, we always need somebody to talk to,? Aky said.
