VANCOVUER, British Columbia - U.S. defender Ali Krieger says she's not giving up hope that she can play in the Olympics.
Krieger spoke to reporters for the first time Sunday since tearing the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in her right knee during an Olympic qualifying match in Canada.
Krieger said she plans to fly home Monday so she can have her surgery as soon as possible. Her rehabilitation time is expected to be six to eight months, which likely rules her out for the Summer Games in London.
But Krieger says some athletes have returned from the injury sooner, and she'll work hard to do just that.
She was hurt during the Americans' 14-0 win over the Dominican Republic on Friday.
