Wilton Resident, Former Golf Pro To Host MS Benefit Tourney

WILTON, CONN. -- A Wilton resident who has multiple sclerosis has organized a charity golf tournament in Ridgefield to help fight the disease.

Greg Jacobson, known as Jake, is hosting the Sept. 25 event at Ridgefield Golf Club. It is the event's inaugural tournament.

Jacobson was a fixture at the Ridgefield Golf Club for nearly 20 years with numerous club championships and a course record. He also was a regular competitor in Connecticut State Golf Association tournaments, playing in numerous Connecticut Opens, Amateurs and Mid-Amateurs.

His golf career came to an end in 2011 when he was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis, a debilitating form of the disease in which individuals can lose motor function over time. There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis.

The disease of the nervous system may include loss of sensitivity or changes in sensation such as tingling, pins and needles or numbness, muscle weakness, very pronounced reflexes, muscle spasms, or difficulty in moving; difficulties with coordination and balance, problems with speech or swallowing, visual problems, fatigue, acute or chronic pain, and bladder and bowel difficulties.

For the Sept. 25, The best ball tournament starts at 1 p.m.. The two-person team entry fee is $400 and includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, drinks, contests, prizes, raffle and a silent auction. There will be three divisions -- scratch, men's and women's (both with 80 percent handicap).
