There are hundreds, if not thousands, of skin care products for your face available on the market today. Some are rather inexpensive and others are astronomical in price. Facial products abound in department store aisles and advertising for them is on every television station. Amazingly, the manufacturers and advertisers of these products seem to have forgotten that your skin, the dermis, covers your entire body, not just your face. Your skin is a shield, helping to contain your internal body parts and protect them from any threat such as injury or infection.
Elderly people often suffer from skin tearing easily. This is because their skin has lost its elasticity and become thinner with age.
It is important to maintain your dermis all over your body with some simple skin care methodologies to keep it healthy, strong and supple. This includes regular bathing to eliminate excess oils, dirt and microscopic parasites and spores. Most commercial soaps and cleansers contain some sort of antibacterial agents to help eliminate topical bacteria. In order to prevent a film of cleanser or soap forming on your skin, it is important to rinse properly so your skin can breathe. Drying yourself properly with a soft towel is important too, but don?t rub too vigorously. The sun can damage your skin, causing premature aging and wrinkles, as well as skin cancer. It is therefore important to protect your entire body, not just the skin on your face.
Proper rinsing in the bath or shower is important to remove all dirt and traces of the soap or cleanser. Not rinsing properly can prevent the skin from breathing, because a film of cleanser dries onthe skin. Dry yourself thoroughly with a soft towel before getting dressed. Sunscreen should be applied to your skin all over your body, not just your face, when you go out into the sun. Besides causing skin cancer, the sun causes your skin to age prematurely, adding wrinkles that you neither need nor want. A waterproof sunscreen will be needed if you are going to participate in water sports or activities, and must be re-applied according to the manufacturers?s instructions. You do not need an SPF higher than 50, as most experts agree it is not necessary. People of colour and those with olive skin tones should also wear sunscreen. In essence, any tan that you may have means that you have exposed your skin to the damaging sun, as a tan indicates more melanin in the upper layers of the dermis.
Just as leather needs to be oiled to remain smooth and supple, your dermis requires moisturizing. Although some moisturizing skin care lotions and creams can cost bundles, you will find reasonably priced versions available at any drug store or retail department store. To prevent dry, chapped or itchy skin, you should moisturize regularly, particularly areas of the skin where you shave such as the legs. The major point everyone should remember is that daily cleansing, moisturizing and protection of your entire body is a skin care regimen that should be a part of anyone living a healthy lifestyle.
