Gillette College teams find early success in rodeo ? Artesia News

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) ? Gillette College added rodeo to its team sports in 2007. Since then it has built a reputation as a college rodeo powerhouse.

The men?s team has qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo four consecutive years and its women?s team has made the finals in three of the last four years while competing in the tough Central Rocky Mountain Region.

In 2010, the Gillette women?s team won the national championship.

Gillette coach Will LaDuke tells the Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/11CWcGv) that one of the big reasons for the college?s early success is the community support for the rodeo program.

For instance, the team practices at the Gillette Cam-Plex in the winter and spring months.

The College National Finals Rodeo is under way this week in Casper.
